Tillman B. Franks was born in Stamps, Arkansas, on September 29, 1920. He was the son of a sharecropper and grew up in a musical family. He began playing the bass at the age of 12 and soon became a sought-after musician in the area. In the 1940s, Franks moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he joined the Louisiana Hayride, a popular radio show. He played with many of the biggest names in country music, including Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley. He also played with the house band at the Louisiana Hayride, the Louisiana Hayride Band. In the 1950s, Franks moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he became a session musician. He played on hundreds of recordings, including those of Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and George Jones. He also wrote songs for many of these artists. In the 1960s, Franks moved to Los Angeles, California, where he continued to work as a session musician. He also wrote songs for television shows and movies, including The Beverly Hillbillies and The Partridge Family. In the 1970s, Franks returned to Nashville and continued to work as a session musician. He also wrote songs for many of the biggest names in country music, including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard. Tillman B. Franks is now retired and lives in Nashville, Tennessee. 1960

Was the manager and bass player for Country Music legend Johnny Horton from 1955 until November 5, 1960, when Johnny was tragically killed in a car accident in Milano, Texas. Johnny and Tillman were returning to Shreveport, Louisiana after a concert at the "Skyline Club" in Austin, Texas, along with guitarist Tommy Tomlinson, when a drunk driver crossed the line on a bridge in Milano and hit Johnny head-on. Franks was in the front passenger seat next to Johnny, who was driving, and was critically injured but survived. Tomlinson, who was in the back seat, was also badly injured, and eventually had to have his leg amputated because of the injury received in the crash.
