R. Alex Anderson was an American composer and arranger of Hawaiian music. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was the son of a Hawaiian music teacher. Anderson was a prolific composer, writing over 500 songs, many of which became popular in the Hawaiian music scene. He was also an accomplished arranger, and his arrangements of traditional Hawaiian songs were often featured in films and television shows. Anderson was a member of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame in 2002. Anderson's career spanned over five decades, and he was a major influence on the development of Hawaiian music. He wrote and arranged music for many of the most popular Hawaiian singers of the time, including Alfred Apaka, Don Ho, and Genoa Keawe. Anderson also wrote and arranged music for films, television shows, and commercials. Anderson died in Honolulu on October 15, 1971. He was 77 years old.
