Speech is an American musician, composer, and actor. He is best known as the lead vocalist and co-founder of the Grammy Award-winning hip hop group Arrested Development. He has also released several solo albums and collaborated with other artists. Speech was born Todd Thomas on October 25, 1968 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in a musical family and was exposed to a variety of musical styles, including gospel, jazz, and soul. He began playing the piano at the age of five and was soon writing his own songs. Speech attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he studied music and theater. After graduating, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he formed Arrested Development with his brother, rapper Headliner. The group released their debut album, 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of…, in 1992. The album was a critical and commercial success, winning two Grammy Awards and selling over four million copies. Speech has since released several solo albums, including Spirit of the Harvest (1996), Hoopla (1999), and The Healing (2003). He has also collaborated with other artists, including OutKast, Erykah Badu, and Common. Speech is currently 53 years old. He has an estimated net worth of $2 million.
