Shana Alexander was an American journalist, author, and television personality. She was born on October 6, 1925 in New York City, New York. She attended the University of California, Berkeley, and graduated with a degree in English in 1947. Alexander began her career as a journalist in the 1950s, writing for magazines such as McCall's, Life, and Vogue. She was the first female staff writer for Life magazine, and was the magazine's first female editor-at-large. In the 1960s, Alexander became a television personality, appearing on shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Dick Cavett Show. She also hosted her own show, Shana Alexander on the CBS Morning News. Alexander wrote several books, including The Pizza Connection: The True Story of a Computer Genius and His Battle Against the Mafia (1984), Very Much a Lady: The Untold Story of Jean Harris and Dr. Herman Tarnower (1985), and Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder: A Family Story (1989). Alexander was married twice, first to William Alexander, and then to Dr. Robert Wilner. She died on June 23, 2005 in Los Angeles, California.
