Noble's band specialised in ballads. His main vocalist was Al Bowlly, who was killed during a German air raid on London in April 1941.

1935

Noble came to the U.S. in 1935, due to popular demand for his recordings. However, it was Glenn Miller who put together his new orchestra, hiring trumpet players Charlie Spivak and Peewee Erwin, trombonist Will Bradley, tenor saxophonist Bud Freeman, clarinettist Johnny Mince and pianist Claude Thornhill. Miller stayed with Noble for eighteen months, also doing some of the arranging, before leaving to form his own band.
