1961

Nadine Therese Laporte Goetz (born 1961) has been a researcher and professor of forestry and remote sensing for over 30 years. She is a research professor at Northern Arizona University. During her time as a scientist at the Woods Hole Research Center, she was the director of the Africa program. Laporte advocates for REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) as a form of land use to protect forests and lessen deforestation in the DRC and other tropical ecosystems. This method was suggested because it would help protect biodiversity, people living in the area, and maintaining stored carbon in these tropical ecosystems.
