Mike Heron is a Scottish singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor. He is best known as a founding member of the folk-rock band The Incredible String Band. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on 12 December 1942. Heron began playing guitar and writing songs at an early age. He formed The Incredible String Band in 1966 with Robin Williamson and Clive Palmer. The band released several albums and toured extensively throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. Heron wrote many of the band's songs, including "The First Girl I Loved," "The Circle Is Unbroken," and "The Half-Remarkable Question." In the mid-1970s, Heron left The Incredible String Band and began a solo career. He released several solo albums, including Smiling Men with Bad Reputations (1971), It's My Story (1973), and No More Sad Refrains (1976). He also collaborated with other musicians, including Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, and John Martyn. Heron has also acted in several films, including The Wicker Man (1973) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). He has also appeared in television shows, including Doctor Who and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Heron continues to perform and record music. He released his latest album, The View from the Morning, in 2018.
