The character "Dip Nelson" in Jacqueline Susann's 1969 bestselling roman a clef "The Love Machine" was based on Keefe Brasselle.

Brasselle was associated with Burt Pugach, who was notorious for hiring thugs to blind his girlfriend and future wife, Linda Pugach, with lye. Burt Pugach co-produced Death Over My Shoulder (1958) , starring Brasselle and Brasselle's wife, Arlene DeMarco. Brasselle's relationship with Burt Pugach was detailed in Crazy Love (2007), a documentary about the Pugachs.

Brasselle's chief claim to fame was starring in the titular role of The Eddie Cantor Story (1953), a film which failed to emulate the success of a similar biopic, The Jolson Story (1946). Much of the blame for the picture's failure was attributed to Brasselle's unconvincing performance, which, critics said, bordered on caricature.

Met his future wife, Arlene DeMarco, on the set of the Esther Williams film Skirts Ahoy! (1952).

He was an actor, known for A Place in the Sun (1951), The Eddie Cantor Story (1953) and Not Wanted (1949). He was married to Arlene DeMarco and Norma Jean Aldrich.
