James T. Aubrey was an American television and film executive and producer. He was best known for his work as the president of CBS from 1959 to 1965. During his tenure, he was responsible for the development of some of the most popular television shows of the era, including The Twilight Zone, The Andy Griffith Show, and Gunsmoke. Aubrey was born in La Salle, Illinois, and attended the University of Illinois. After graduating, he worked in the advertising industry before joining CBS in 1950. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the head of programming in 1955. In 1959, Aubrey was appointed president of CBS, and he quickly set about transforming the network. He was responsible for the development of some of the most popular shows of the era, including The Twilight Zone, The Andy Griffith Show, and Gunsmoke. He also oversaw the development of the first color television broadcasts. Aubrey left CBS in 1965, and went on to produce films, including The Sand Pebbles and The Cincinnati Kid. He also served as the president of MGM from 1969 to 1973. Aubrey died in 1994 at the age of 75. He was posthumously inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1997.
