Fran Frey was a French composer and music director. He was born in Paris, France, and studied at the Conservatoire de Paris. He was a prolific composer, writing over 200 works for the stage, film, and television. He was also a conductor, arranger, and orchestrator. Frey's most famous works include the musicals La Cage aux Folles and Gigi. He also wrote the music for the films The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Frey was married to the French actress and singer, Michèle Arnaud. He died in Paris in 1983.

Saxophonist, vocalist, arranger and composer active in the 1920s and 1930s with the bands of George Olson, Leo Reisman and Ben Selvin. Frey was the son of Indianapolis journalist and musician/composer Fremont Frey.

Throughout the early 1920s he played and sang in area orchestras, and came to New York to appear in the Eddie Cantor stage offering of "Kid Boots" and in "Sunny" with Marilyn Miller.
