Bruce Broughton is an American composer and conductor of film, television, and concert music. He has composed the scores for over 100 films and television shows, including Silverado, Miracle on 34th Street, Tombstone, and The Rescuers Down Under. He has also composed concert works for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Broughton was born in Los Angeles, California, and studied at the University of Southern California, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1967. He then went on to study at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a Master of Music degree in 1969. Broughton has won numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore) for his score for the television series Picket Fences, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score for his work on the film Silverado. He has also been nominated for numerous other awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for his work on the film The Rescuers Down Under. Broughton is currently a professor of composition at the University of Southern California. He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
