He has also composed music for films, television shows, and commercials. Ralston was born in Upland, California, and began playing the piano at the age of four. He attended the University of Southern California, where he studied music and composition. After graduating, he joined the Lawrence Welk Show as a pianist and arranger. He remained with the show for over 20 years, and composed the show's theme song, "Bubbles in the Wine". Ralston has composed music for films such as The Great Race, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, and The Poseidon Adventure. He has also composed music for television shows such as The Monkees, The Partridge Family, and The Brady Bunch. He has also composed music for commercials for companies such as McDonald's, Burger King, and Coca-Cola. Ralston has won several awards for his work, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Series for The Lawrence Welk Show in 1975.
