Randy Newman is an American singer-songwriter, arranger, composer, and pianist who has won two Academy Awards, six Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, and the Governor's Award from the Recording Academy. He has composed music for over fifty films and has sold over twenty million albums worldwide. Randy Newman was born in Los Angeles, California, to a Jewish family. He began playing the piano at the age of five and was soon writing his own songs. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied music composition. In 1968, Newman released his debut album, Randy Newman, which featured his first hit single, "Short People". He has since released twelve studio albums, including the critically acclaimed Sail Away (1972), Good Old Boys (1974), and Little Criminals (1977). Randy Newman has composed music for over fifty films, including Toy Story (1995), A Bug's Life (1998), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Cars (2006), and Toy Story 3 (2010). He has also written the scores for several television shows, including Monk (2002-2009) and Parenthood (2010-2015). Randy Newman has won two Academy Awards, six Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, and the Governor's Award from the Recording Academy. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
