Jack Nitzsche was an American musician, arranger, producer, songwriter, and film score composer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and began his career as a session musician in the 1950s. He worked with a variety of artists, including Phil Spector, The Rolling Stones, and Neil Young. He also wrote and produced songs for films, including "The Lonely Surfer" and "The Last Race". Nitzsche was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the soundtrack for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). He also composed the score for the film Starman (1984). Nitzsche was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. He died in 2000 at the age of 63. At the time of his death, Nitzsche had an estimated net worth of $2 million. Co-wrote (with Sonny Bono) the song "Needles and Pins" for The Searchers which gave him his start in show business. Bono died January 5, 1998 from a skiing accident at age 62, Nitzsche died August 25, 2000, from a heart attack related to a lung infection at age 63, outliving Bono by only 32 months.
