Edward Arnold was an American actor who had a long career in film, television, and on stage. He was born in New York City on February 18, 1890. He began his career in vaudeville and made his Broadway debut in 1915. He made his film debut in 1919 and went on to appear in over 100 films. He was best known for his roles in such films as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), The Great McGinty (1940), and Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Devil and Miss Jones (1941). He died on April 26, 1956 in Los Angeles, California.
