Chet Atkins was an American guitarist, songwriter, and record producer who was one of the most influential and innovative musicians of the 20th century. He was known as "Mr. Guitar" and "The Country Gentleman" for his smooth, sophisticated style of playing. He was a pioneer of the Nashville sound, which combined elements of country, jazz, and pop music. He was also a prolific session musician, playing on hundreds of recordings by artists such as Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, and Roy Orbison. He released over 70 albums as a solo artist and won 14 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. At the time of his death in 2001, he was estimated to have sold over 75 million records worldwide.
