Alan Thicke was a Canadian actor, songwriter, and game and talk show host. He was best known for his role as Jason Seaver, the patriarch on the ABC television series Growing Pains. He also wrote and composed theme songs for several television series, including Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, and Wheel of Fortune. Thicke was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, to William Jeffrey and Joan Thicke. He attended the University of Western Ontario, where he studied psychology and English literature. Thicke began his career as a songwriter, writing theme songs for television shows such as Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, and Wheel of Fortune. He also wrote and composed the theme song for the ABC television series Growing Pains, which he starred in from 1985 to 1992. Thicke also hosted several game and talk shows, including The Alan Thicke Show, Thicke of the Night, and The New Newlywed Game. He also appeared in films such as Not Quite Human and The Growing Pains Movie. Thicke was married three times and had three children. He died on December 13, 2016, at the age of 69.
