A.C. Benson was an English poet, essayist, author, and composer. He was the son of Edward White Benson, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Mary Sidgwick Benson. He was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Cambridge Apostles. Benson wrote many poems, essays, and books, including The Thread of Gold (1890), The Hill of Trouble (1893), and The School of Life (1902). He also wrote the lyrics for the hymn "Land of Hope and Glory" (1902). Benson was a Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge, from 1891 to 1925. He was also a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge, from 1925 to his death in 1925. Benson was a prolific composer of music, including songs, choral works, and chamber music. He was also a conductor and a professor of music at Cambridge. Benson died on 17 June 1925 in Cambridge, England.
