Ya'ackov Ben-Dov was a pioneering filmmaker and director in the early days of the Israeli film industry. He was born in Ukraine in 1882 and immigrated to Palestine in 1906. He began his career as a photographer and cinematographer, and eventually became a director and producer. He was the first to make a feature-length film in Palestine, and his films were among the first to be shown in the newly established Israeli cinemas. Ben-Dov was a prolific filmmaker, producing over 30 films in his lifetime. His films often focused on the struggles of the Jewish people in Palestine, and he was a strong advocate for the Zionist cause. He was also a pioneer in the use of color film, and his films were among the first to be shot in color in the region. Ben-Dov died in Jerusalem in 1965.
