Wayne Barrett is an American journalist and author who has written extensively about New York City politics and government. He is best known for his investigative reporting on Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani. Barrett was born in New Britain, Connecticut, and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1967. He began his career as a reporter for the Hartford Courant in 1969. In 1972, he moved to New York City to work for the Village Voice, where he wrote about politics and government for more than three decades. Barrett has written several books, including Grand Illusion: The Untold Story of Rudy Giuliani and 9/11 (2006), Trump: The Greatest Show on Earth (2016), and Rudy! An Investigative Biography of Rudy Giuliani (2000). He has also written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Nation. Barrett has received numerous awards for his work, including the George Polk Award for Metropolitan Reporting, the National Magazine Award for Public Interest, and the I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence.
