Wasantha Obesekara is a Sri Lankan writer and director. He is best known for his work in the Sinhala language, and has written and directed several films, television series, and plays. He has also written several books, including novels, short stories, and plays. Obesekara was born in Mathugama, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) on 29 December 1937. He studied at the University of Ceylon, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then went on to study at the London Film School, where he obtained a diploma in film direction. Obesekara has written and directed several films, including the award-winning "Kadawunu Poronduwa" (The Broken Promise, 1956), "Rekhawa" (The Line, 1958), and "Golu Hadawatha" (The Cold Heart, 1967). He has also written and directed several television series, including "Sudu Kalu Saha Alu" (White and Black, 1978), "Sihina Desa" (The Country of Dreams, 1981), and "Sudu Nona" (The White Lady, 1983). Obesekara has also written several books, including novels, short stories, and plays. His books include "Kadawunu Poronduwa" (The Broken Promise, 1956), "Rekhawa" (The Line, 1958), and "Golu Hadawatha" (The Cold Heart, 1967).
