Valery Zubov died on April 27, 2016 in Moscow after a suffering a long and serious illness. He was buried at the Troyekurovskoye Cemetery in Moscow, where a number of other notable Russian figures are buried as well.

2005

He was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the Krasnoyarsk single-mandate constituency No. 48 in December 1999, gaining 33.3% of the vote. From 2001, to 2004, he served as a member of the tripartite group focusing on improving intergovernmental relations in the Russian Federation. He became member of various tripartisan associations as well, including “Siberian Agreement”, “Energy of Russia”, “Business Russia” and “Commodity producers of Russia”. In April 2002, he was elected as the Chairman of State Committee on Credit Organizations and Financial Markets. He won his reelection bid to State Duma from the Krasnoyarsk single-member constituency No. 50 in December 2003 and was selected for the Commission overseeing economic security as deputy chairperson. On April 23, 2005, he left United Russia, and joined People's Freedom Party, where he served as a member of the political council from 2005 to 2007. in 2007, he was elected for State Duma for a third consecutive term, and in 2011 for a fourth term. By 2014, he had become one of the richest members of Duma from his area. During his tenure in State Duma, he voted against the Dima Yakovlev Law, where he was one of only eight members to oppose the law. He also abstained from voting during the vote legalizing the Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, where he was one of only 2 members to do so.

1992

He was elected as the Deputy governor of the Krasnoyarsk in 1992. He also became the head of the ministry of economics of the region in the same year. in 1996 he was nominated as a member of the Federal committee overseeing budget, finance, tax and customs regulations for a two year term. He became the governor of Krasnoyarsk in 1996. He lost his reelection bid to Alexander Lebed in 1998. He joined the Siberian socio-political movement "Union for the Future" and became its co-chairperson in 1998.

He completed his degree of economic sciences from Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in 1982, and was assigned to work in Krasnoyarsk, at his own request. He joined the Krasnoyarsk State University as a senior lecturer. He left for USA in 1986, to study at the University of Oklahoma. He returned in 1987. He completed his doctorate in 1991 from the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics, and Informatics and was subsequently appointed dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Krasnoyarsk State University. At the time he was the youngest dean in any university in Russia.

He graduated with honors from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in 1977 and joined the Soviet Air Defence Forces the next year.

He was appointed as one of the four co-chairs of PARNAS (The People's Freedom Party). He held a doctorate in economics specializing in the field of economic statistics and was the professor of Higher School of Business at the Moscow State University. He authored 4 monographs and 27 scientific papers during his career. He was awarded the Order of Honour (Russia), the Medal "For Distinguished Labour" and the Russian Federation Presidential Certificate of Honour.

Zubov was born on May 9, 1953 in Novospasskoye, Ulyanovsk Oblast. He completed his high school studies in 1970 from a school in Lermontov, Stavropol Krai. He started working for the government of Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic that same year. He started as an assistant driller in a geological exploration expedition in Azghyr (Kazakhstan), and was then promoted and moved to the installation and construction department of the Ministry of Secondary Engineering. In 1971 he joined the Russian State Geological Prospecting University, however he moved to Plekhanov Russian University of Economics one year later.
