She attended the University of Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She then attended the University of Southern California, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Animation and Digital Arts. LaPointe began her career in animation in 2006, when she was hired as a storyboard artist for the animated series The Life and Times of Juniper Lee. She then worked as a storyboard artist for the animated series The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack from 2008 to 2009. In 2010, LaPointe was hired as a writer for the animated series Adventure Time. She wrote for the series until 2018, when the series ended. She also wrote for the animated series Regular Show from 2011 to 2013. In addition to her writing work, LaPointe has also directed episodes of the animated series Clarence from 2014 to 2015.
