Uri Savir is an Israeli diplomat and politician who served as the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 2000. He is also the founder and president of the Peres Center for Peace. Savir was born in Jerusalem, Israel, on 7 January 1953. He is the son of a Holocaust survivor and a veteran of the Israeli War of Independence. He attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned a degree in political science and international relations. Savir began his career in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975. He served in various diplomatic posts in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. In 1996, he was appointed Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position he held until 2000. In 2000, Savir founded the Peres Center for Peace, an organization dedicated to promoting peace and reconciliation between Israel and its neighbors. He has served as the president of the organization since its inception. Savir is married to Dr. Yael Savir, a professor of psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. They have two children.

In the 1999 elections he was elected to the Knesset on the Centre Party list. On 6 March 2001 he and two other MKs left the Centre Party to form the New Way faction. On 28 March he resigned from the Knesset, and was replaced by David Magen, who represented the Centre Party. During his time in the Knesset he served on a number of committees, including the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Uri Savir (Hebrew: אורי סביר ‎; born 7 January 1953) is an Israeli diplomat Ambassador to Eritrea (2001 - 2005) and politician. He served as a member of the Knesset between 1999 and 2001.

Born in Jerusalem in 1953, Savir studied International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he gained a BA. He went on to work as an administrator, and served general manager of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1993 and 1996 he was the Chief Negotiator of the Oslo Accords. His experience became the basis for his book The Process: 1,100 Days that Changed the Middle East, published in 1998.
