Appollis studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town and has since exhibited his work in South Africa, Europe, and the United States. He has also been involved in numerous public art projects, including the installation of a large-scale sculpture in the city of Cape Town. Appollis has received numerous awards for his work, including the South African National Arts Council Award for Visual Arts in 2000 and the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Arts in 2001.
