Totie Fields was an American stand-up comedian and actress. She was born on May 7, 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut. She began her career as a singer and dancer in the Catskill Mountains, and later became a regular on The Ed Sullivan Show. She was known for her brash, no-nonsense style of comedy, and her catchphrase, "I kid you not!" Fields was married to comedian and actor Phil Foster from 1951 until his death in 1985. She had two children, a son and a daughter. Fields died on August 2, 1978, at the age of 51, from complications of diabetes. She was posthumously inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2011. At the time of her death, Fields had an estimated net worth of $2 million. She earned her wealth through her successful career as a stand-up comedian and actress.
