Tor Helness is a Norwegian chess grandmaster and chess author. He was born on 25 July 1957 in Bodø Municipality, Norway. He is the first Norwegian to become a grandmaster, and is the most successful Norwegian chess player of all time. Helness has won the Norwegian Chess Championship four times, in 1979, 1981, 1983 and 1985. He has also won the Nordic Chess Championship twice, in 1981 and 1983. He has represented Norway in the Chess Olympiads eight times, and has won two individual gold medals. Helness has written several books on chess, including "Chess Tactics for Advanced Players" and "Chess Strategy for Club Players". He is also a chess coach and has coached several Norwegian players to international success. As of 2021, Tor Helness's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
