He has been a member of the band since 1978 and has played on all of their albums since then. Garnier was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and grew up in the nearby town of White Bear Lake. He began playing bass guitar at the age of 12, and was influenced by the music of Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. Garnier attended the University of Minnesota, where he studied music and engineering. After graduating, he moved to Dublin, Ireland, to join U2. He has since become an integral part of the band, playing on all of their albums and touring with them extensively. Garnier has also worked as a producer and songwriter, collaborating with artists such as Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and Lucinda Williams. He has also released two solo albums, The Nylon Strings in 2003 and The Nylon Strings II in 2006. Garnier is married to his wife, Ann, and they have two children.
