Tom Underwood is an American former professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Oakland Athletics. He was born on December 22, 1953 in Kokomo, Indiana. Underwood was drafted by the Yankees in the first round of the 1972 Major League Baseball draft. He made his major league debut with the Yankees on April 7, 1975. He was traded to the Phillies in 1977 and then to the Athletics in 1979. He played his final game on October 5, 1986. Underwood was a two-time All-Star, in 1979 and 1980. He was also the American League leader in wins in 1979, with a record of 17-9. He finished his career with a record of 103-97 and an earned run average of 3.90. In his post-baseball career, Underwood has worked as a pitching coach for the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. He currently serves as a special assistant to the Athletics. As of 2021, Tom Underwood's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
