Tim Bernhardt is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames, Hartford Whalers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was born on January 17, 1958 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Bernhardt was drafted in the fourth round, 66th overall, by the Calgary Flames in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. He played in the NHL for parts of four seasons, from 1980 to 1984, with the Flames, Hartford Whalers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He also played in the American Hockey League (AHL) and International Hockey League (IHL). In his NHL career, Bernhardt played in a total of 101 games, scoring 11 goals and adding 15 assists for 26 points. He also played in the 1981 Stanley Cup Finals with the Flames, but they lost to the New York Islanders in five games. After his playing career, Bernhardt became a coach. He was an assistant coach with the AHL's St. John's Maple Leafs from 1995 to 1997, and then was the head coach of the IHL's Manitoba Moose from 1997 to 2000. He was also an assistant coach with the AHL's Manitoba Moose from 2000 to 2002. Bernhardt currently resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is 62 years old.

1983

From 1983 to 1990, Bernhardt split his time between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL farm club St. Catharines Saints/Newmarket Saints. After retirement he worked as a scout for the Dallas Stars until 2011. He was a key person in the Stars organization as he was responsible for drafting players such as Steve Ott, Mike Smith, Jussi Jokinen, Trevor Daley, Loui Eriksson, James Neal, Matt Niskanen and Jamie Benn. Bernhardt served as the director of amateur scouting for the Arizona Coyotes until 2018.

Bernhardt began his career with the Sarnia Junior Bees in 1974 and then with the Cornwall Royals of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1975 to 1978. From 1978 to 1983 he played for several CHL teams (Tulsa Oilers, Birmingham Bulls, Oklahoma City Stars and the Colorado Flames). Prior to joining Calgary, Bernhardt played with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. Bernhardt played for Canada during the World Junior Championships in 1977–1978.
