He was educated at the University of Cambridge, where he studied engineering. Nonweiler began his career in the Royal Air Force, where he worked on the development of the hovercraft. He then went on to work for the British Hovercraft Corporation, where he was responsible for the design and development of the SR.N1, the world's first successful hovercraft. Nonweiler has been awarded numerous awards for his work, including the Royal Aeronautical Society's Gold Medal, the Royal Academy of Engineering's Silver Medal, and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers' Gold Medal. He was also made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1975. Nonweiler is now 98 years old and has an estimated net worth of $2 million.
