Teina Bishop is a Cook Islands politician who has served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Cook Islands since 2018. She is the first woman to hold the position. Bishop was born on 11 April 1959 in Rarotonga, the capital of the Cook Islands. She attended the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations. Bishop began her political career in the Cook Islands in the early 1990s, when she was elected to the Parliament of the Cook Islands. She has held various ministerial portfolios, including Minister of Education, Minister of Health, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2018, she was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Cook Islands. Bishop is married to former Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, Henry Puna. They have two children. Bishop is an active member of the Cook Islands Christian Church.

2016

On 21 July 2016 Bishop was found guilty of corruption over his granting of fisheries licences while a Minister. He was removed from his seat, sparking the 2016 Arutanga-Reureu-Nikaupara by-election.

2014

Bishop resigned again in April 2014, the day after the 2014 election was called. He subsequently established the One Cook Islands Movement to contest the elections, and was re-elected.

2013

In August 2013 Bishop stood down from Cabinet following allegations of corruption and fraud in his handling of the marine resources portfolio. He was reinstated to the Education and Tourism portfolios in January 2014.

2010

Bishop was again appointed to Cabinet in December 2010, after the Cook Islands party won the 2010 election. He currently holds the portfolios of education, marine resources, and tourism.

2004

Bishop was elected Deputy Speaker in 2004 and held the position until 2005. He served briefly as Minister for the Environment and Outer Islands in 2006.
