Susan Tichy is an American poet, essayist, and professor. She was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in the suburbs of Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland, where she earned her B.A. in English in 1974. She then went on to earn her M.A. in English from the University of Virginia in 1976. Tichy has published several collections of poetry, including The Hands in Exile (1986), The Ghost of Eden (1991), and The House of Sages (1998). She has also published essays and reviews in various journals and magazines, including The New York Times Book Review, The Georgia Review, and The American Poetry Review. Tichy has taught at several universities, including the University of Maryland, the University of Virginia, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently a professor of English at the University of Maryland. Tichy has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Pushcart Prize, the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and the Poetry Society of America's Shelley Memorial Award.
