Stuart Gordon is an American film director, writer, and producer. He is best known for his work in the horror genre, particularly his cult classic Re-Animator. He has also directed several other horror films, including From Beyond, Dolls, and Castle Freak. He has also directed several non-horror films, including Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and its sequel, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. Gordon was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 11, 1947. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied theater and film. After graduating, he moved to Chicago and began working in theater, directing and writing plays. Gordon's first feature film was Re-Animator, which was released in 1985. The film was a critical and commercial success, and has since become a cult classic. He followed this up with From Beyond in 1986, and Dolls in 1987. He also directed Honey, I Shrunk the Kids in 1989, and its sequel, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, in 1992. In the 2000s, Gordon directed several horror films, including Castle Freak in 1995, Dagon in 2001, and King of the Ants in 2003. He also directed the television movie Masters of Horror: Dreams in a Witch House in 2005. Gordon's most recent film is Stuck, which was released in 2008. Stuart Gordon started his film directing career in 1985. After graduating from Lane Technical High School, Gordon worked as a commercial artist apprentice prior to enrolling at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Unable to get into the film classes, he enrolled in an acting class and ended up majoring in theater.

He joined with Brian Yuzna and Charles Band's Empire Pictures to create the company's first major hit, Re-Animator (1985), based on the story by H. P. Lovecraft, which won a Critics' Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
