He is best known for his work with jazz fusion group The Rippingtons, and for his collaborations with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and David Sanborn. Reid began playing drums at the age of five, and by the age of twelve he was playing professionally. He attended McGill University in Montreal, where he studied music and composition. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Reid has released several solo albums, including "The Steve Reid Project" (1995), "The Steve Reid Ensemble" (1997), and "The Steve Reid InNOVAtion" (1999). He has also released several albums with The Rippingtons, including "Tourist in Paradise" (1989), "Brave New World" (1991), and "Curves Ahead" (1993). Reid has won numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for "Tourist in Paradise" (1989).
