Steven Hanft is a writer/director known for original films and music videos. In 2003, Hanft released his second feature film Southlander, a surreal odyssey about a possessed keyboard called the "Moletron". The film, featuring cameos by Mark Gonzales, Beck, Hank Williams III, Billy Higgins, Elliott Smith, and Royal Trux was shot in two weeks. In 2008, he released his third feature film, a music documentary Return of the Rub-a-Dub Style, about the original sound system reggae artists performing in Los Angeles. The film screened at Anthology Film Archive in New York, and Don't Knock the Rock Film Festival, in Los Angeles, and was released to DVD in 2011 on the Stones Throw Records website and Ernie B's Reggae site.
