Stephen Dewar is a Canadian writer, director, and producer. He is best known for his work on the television series The Beachcombers, which ran from 1972 to 1990. He has also written and directed several feature films, including The Grey Fox (1982), The Bay Boy (1984), and The Diviners (1993). Dewar was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1943. He attended the University of British Columbia, where he studied English literature and theatre. After graduating, he moved to Vancouver and began working in the film industry. Dewar has written and directed several feature films, including The Grey Fox (1982), The Bay Boy (1984), and The Diviners (1993). He has also written and directed several television movies, including The Beachcombers: The Movie (1990) and The Beachcombers: The Reunion (1996). Dewar has won several awards for his work, including the Genie Award for Best Screenplay for The Grey Fox (1982), the Genie Award for Best Direction for The Bay Boy (1984), and the Gemini Award for Best Direction in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series for The Diviners (1993). Dewar is married to actress and director Martha Henry. They have two children.
