Sitta Umaru Turay is a Sierra Leonean politician and former Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs. She was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and is the daughter of former Sierra Leonean President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. She attended the University of Sierra Leone, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations. Turay was appointed Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs in 2007, and served in that position until 2012. During her tenure, she was responsible for the implementation of the National Social Protection Policy, which aimed to reduce poverty and improve the lives of vulnerable populations. She also worked to improve access to education and health services for women and children. In addition to her political career, Turay is also an advocate for women's rights and gender equality. She is a founding member of the Women's Forum of Sierra Leone, and has served as a board member of the African Women's Development Fund.
