Simon Tisdall is a British journalist and author who has been writing for The Guardian since 1983. He is the author of several books, including The Great Deception: Anglo-American Power and World Order (2003) and Dangerous Times: The International Politics of Great Power Conflict (2020). Tisdall was born in Manchester, England, in 1953. He studied at the University of Manchester and the London School of Economics. He began his career as a journalist in 1976, working for the Financial Times and The Times. He joined The Guardian in 1983 and has since written extensively on international affairs, including the Middle East, the Balkans, and the former Soviet Union. Tisdall has received numerous awards for his work, including the British Press Awards Foreign Reporter of the Year in 2002 and the Orwell Prize for Journalism in 2003. Tisdall has criticised Britain's close ties with Saudi Arabia and British involvement in the Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen. In 2018, he wrote that "the UK-Saudi alliance is pernicious, encouraging the worst in both sides, and deeply corrosive of “our values”.
