Shamim Ara is an Indian film actress, director, and producer who has appeared in over 100 films in Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. She is best known for her roles in films such as Anarkali (1958), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), and Mere Mehboob (1963). Ara was born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, British India in 1938. She began her career as a child artist in the film Putli Bai (1946). She went on to appear in several films in the 1950s and 1960s, including Anarkali (1958), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), and Mere Mehboob (1963). In the 1970s, Ara began directing and producing films, including the hit film Aap Ki Kasam (1974). She also produced the film Aaina (1977), which was directed by her husband, K. Bapaiah. Ara has won several awards for her work, including the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960). In 1976,she decided to become a film director herself and turned out many super-hit films like Playboy (1978), Miss Istanbul (1996) and Munda Bigra Jaye (1995) among many others. After Shamim Ara's husband Sardar Rind died in a fatal car accident on Karachi-Hyderabad Highway, she married film director Fareed Ahmed but this marriage only lasted for a very short time and the couple separated for unknown reasons and got divorced. Then Shamim Ara married A. Majeed from Agfa Color Film Company and had a son with him named Salman Iqbal.
