Sebastian Cabot was an English actor and voice actor. He is best known for his role as the gentleman's gentleman, Mr. French, in the 1960s sitcom Family Affair. He also provided the voice of Bagheera in the 1967 Disney animated film The Jungle Book. Cabot was born in London, England, on 6 July 1918. He began his career as a stage actor in the 1930s, appearing in a number of plays in London's West End. He made his film debut in 1939, appearing in the British comedy The Four Just Men. In the 1950s, Cabot moved to the United States and began appearing in American films and television shows. He had a recurring role as the villainous Dr. Carl Hyatt in the CBS series Checkmate. He also appeared in a number of Disney films, including The Sword in the Stone (1963) and The Aristocats (1970). In 1966, Cabot was cast as the butler, Mr. French, in the CBS sitcom Family Affair. The show ran for five seasons and earned Cabot an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Comedy Series in 1968. In 1967, Cabot provided the voice of Bagheera in the Disney animated film The Jungle Book. He also provided the voice of the narrator in the film. Cabot continued to appear in films and television shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His last film role was in the 1988 comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! Cabot died on 22 August 1977 in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 59.
