Scott Heidepriem is an American politician who served as the 44th Governor of South Dakota from 2011 to 2019. He was born on June 25, 1956 in Miller, South Dakota. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in political science and earned his law degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law. Heidepriem began his political career in the South Dakota House of Representatives, where he served from 1987 to 1994. He then served as the South Dakota Senate Majority Leader from 1995 to 2002. In 2006, he was elected to the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, where he served until his election as Governor in 2010. As Governor, Heidepriem focused on economic development, education, and health care. He also worked to improve the state's infrastructure and transportation systems. He was an advocate for renewable energy and was a strong supporter of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Heidepriem is married to his wife, Linda, and they have two children.
