Ruth Lowe was a Canadian composer and pianist. She is best known for writing the song "I'll Never Smile Again," which was a hit for Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra in 1940. Lowe was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on August 12, 1914. She began playing the piano at the age of four and was performing professionally by the age of twelve. She studied at the Toronto Conservatory of Music and later at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In the 1930s, Lowe began writing songs and performing in clubs and on the radio. She wrote the song "I'll Never Smile Again" in 1939, and it was recorded by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra in 1940. The song became a hit and was later recorded by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and many other artists. Lowe continued to write songs throughout her career, and her songs were recorded by artists such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Peggy Lee. She also wrote the music for the musicals "The Pajama Game" and "The Music Man." Lowe died in Toronto on December 25, 1981.
