Russell Banks is an American novelist, short story writer, and poet. He was born on March 28, 1940 in Newton, Massachusetts. He is best known for his novels The Sweet Hereafter (1991) and Affliction (1989). He has also written several collections of short stories, including The Angel on the Roof (2000) and The Darling (2004). Banks attended Colgate University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has taught at Princeton University, Columbia University, and the University of New Hampshire. Banks has won numerous awards for his writing, including the O. Henry Award, the PEN/Faulkner Award, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award. He was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1989 and 1992. As of 2021, Russell Banks's net worth is estimated to be roughly $2 million.
