Runoko Rashidi is an internationally-renowned historian, researcher, essayist, author, and activist. He was born in 1954 in Los Angeles, California, and is of African-American and Native American descent. He is best known for his work on African history and culture, and has traveled extensively throughout the African continent and the African diaspora. Rashidi has written and lectured extensively on African history and culture, and has authored or co-authored several books, including African Star Routes: A Journey Through the African Diaspora, African Presence in Early Asia, and The African Disapora: A History Through Culture. He has also served as a consultant for numerous television documentaries, including the PBS series Africans in America. Rashidi is the founder and director of the Global African Presence, an organization dedicated to the study and promotion of African history and culture. He is also a member of the African-American Studies faculty at California State University, Northridge. Rashidi has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the African-American History Award from the National Council for Black Studies, the African-American History Award from the National Association of African-American Studies, and the African-American History Award from the National Association of African-American Studies. He has also been inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame.
