Roland Viau is a Canadian academic and writer. He is a professor of French literature at the University of Ottawa and a member of the Royal Society of Canada. He is the author of several books, including "The Poetics of the Novel" and "The Novel in French: A Critical History". He has also written numerous articles and essays on French literature and culture. Viau was born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ottawa in 1976 and his Master of Arts degree from the same institution in 1978. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Toronto in 1984. Viau has held various academic positions throughout his career, including professor of French literature at the University of Ottawa, professor of French literature at the University of Toronto, and professor of French literature at the University of Montreal. He has also served as a visiting professor at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and the University of Bordeaux. Viau is a member of the Royal Society of Canada and has received numerous awards and honors, including the Prix de l'Académie française, the Prix de la Société des lettres canadiennes, and the Prix du Québec.
