He is the owner of Rodney Scott's BBQ in Charleston, South Carolina, and Birmingham, Alabama. Scott was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised in Hemingway, South Carolina. He began cooking whole hog barbecue at the age of 8, when his father, Wilbur, taught him the craft. He has been cooking whole hog barbecue ever since. Scott opened his first restaurant, Rodney Scott's BBQ, in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2017. The restaurant has since been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. Scott has won numerous awards for his barbecue, including the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southeast in 2018. He was also named one of the "50 Most Influential People in Barbecue" by Texas Monthly in 2019. Scott is married to his wife, Nicole, and they have two children. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping.
