Robert Farnon was a Canadian composer, arranger, conductor, and music producer. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 24, 1917. He was best known for his light orchestral music, which was often used in films and television. He was also a prolific composer of concert works, including symphonies, concertos, and suites. Farnon studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He began his career as a jazz musician, playing in various bands in the 1930s and 1940s. He then moved into arranging and composing for radio and television. Farnon's music was featured in many films, including The Guns of Navarone, The Great Escape, and The Bridge on the River Kwai. He also wrote the theme music for the BBC television series The Adventures of Robin Hood. Farnon was awarded the Order of Canada in 1975 and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1985. He died in London on April 23, 2005.
