He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1977 and served in the United States Army until 1981. Riley began his political career in 2002 when he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives. He served as Speaker of the House from 2010 to 2014. During his tenure, he was instrumental in passing legislation to improve the state's education system, reduce taxes, and create jobs. Riley is currently the President and CEO of Rob Riley & Associates, a consulting firm that specializes in government relations and public policy. He is also a partner in the law firm of Riley & Jackson, P.C. Riley is married to the former Susanne Schafer and has two children. He is a member of the Republican Party and is active in his local church.
