He was a writer and producer, known for The White Buffalo (1977), Suddenly (1954), and Torpedo Run (1958). He was married to Mary Loos (a. k. a. Mary Sale while married to first husband Richard Sale and Mary Anita Loos Von Saltza while married to and widowed from second husband Carl Von Saltza) and secondly to Irma Sale, who became his widow.

Wrote some of his scripts with first wife Mary Loos beginning about 1941 and continued writing, creating, and some producing with her until about 1967.

1937

Prolific author of pulp fiction, such as the "Candid Jones" series (1937-41), "Daffy Dill", "John the Cobra" and "Owl Eye Venner", published by Detective Fiction Weekly, Argosy, Dime Detective and others. He also penned more serious novels from 1936 onward, and began writing stories and screenplays for Hollywood starting in 1937. Came to Hollywood as writer/director, and worked briefly for Republic (1946-49) and 20th Century Fox (1950-53). Later known primarily for his best-selling Hollywood 'expose' novel "The Oscar".
